Not Driving then What are you doing? Stop Twiddling
You've done all the networking you can , you've delivered all your jobs and
now your sat at home or office twiddling your thumbs. Its no good sat their
wondering why the phone isn’t ringing. Do something. Are your papers up
to date, do your invoices need sorting.
Use Your Spare Time to your advantage. Invoices that haven't
been paid yet are lost money stick to your payment rules, if you have a 30 day
limit, send them a reminder letter on the 25th and on the 31st day call them
up see what is going on. If they have not paid you yet they will more than likely
forget. So use your spare time to get on to them. This also work vice versa
if you owe subbies money don’t forget about them. Find out when you will
be able to pay them and let them now. Remember they got you out of a situation.
Clean Your Van a clean van looks better then a dirty van plus
has the bonus of saving fuel not much but its there. Give it a mini service
this is easy and free and could save you a lot of money. Buy yourself a Manual
if you are not sure. Checking the oil, water levels and tyre pressure should
be something all drivers should now how to do and should be done before each
journey. If you feel brave enough check the air and fuel filter as well. If
all these are in top shape they can save you a small fortune in the long run.
Educate Yourself in taxes ready for the end of the year, you
can use the government tax website for
this which is full of information on doing your own tax returns. Their is also
a vast
internet that's full of info. But don’t leave it too long the deadline
for self assessment is 30th September for online and a final deadline of 31st
January.
Find other sources of earning The internet has many ways for
earning money while you do other stuff. Among the things I use is the National
Lottery. Or you could write articles and submit them to paying article sites
especially about your own company. Write a list of the local companies in your
area who uses a van and offer your services if any of their drivers have a day
off. A friend of mine went to a tile depot for a couple of days work and a few
months later he is their main logistics provider.
What ever you do don’t just sit around waiting for the phone to ring
theirs a lot more to the business than delivering parcels.
